Birdwatching in the Chimanimani Mountains

We have some beautiful birds in Zimbabwe and Chimanimani is the perfect place to spend your day looking for the iridescent Sunbirds, a long tailed Weaver or even some birds of prey.

We can head into the national park or alternatively other locations around the village and community.

Whether you would like to combine a hike with your bird watching or just head out in to the surrounding bushland looking for a great photo opportunity, I can organise a half or full day to maximise your time in Chimanimani.

BIRDWATCHING IN CHIMANIMANI

Your day trip birdwatching is totally dependant on how you would like to spend your day.

We can head out into the National Park and appreciate the stunning scenery in the mountains or I have a few different locations to while away the hours waiting for the next exciting spotting.

There is an option to head into the Eland Sanctuary or Bridal Veil falls always on the lookout for wildlife and bird life. If you are looking to catch a particular species of bird, letting me know that info before we start our trip will assist greatly in our chances of finding the birdlife you are wanting to see.

Possible Itineraries

A lot of birdwatching trips are only single day trips, with me dropping you back to your accommodation in the afternoon. We can of course plan multiple days, venturing to different locations each day.

If you wish to do some hiking in the mountains, we can of course incorporate some birdwatching with the hiking, however there will be times we need to concentrate on where we are putting our feet, so you will have to take that info account.

Most cars in Chimanimani are small so we recommend 2 persons per car. We can seat 3 in most cars, however it would be great if you could let me know the number in your group beforehand so I can organise an appropriately sized vehicle for you.

What To Bring

Comfortable hiking backpack
Food and/or snacks
Camera, tripod and all your photography needs
Good size water bottle (I can show you where to fill up using the sparkling clean mountain water so excess water isn't required)
Binoculars
